My Brother…My Son, is a novel born of the will of the people within its pages, who wanted their story told their way. It isn’t a book that will be a comfortable read for most, as it takes us back to one of the ugliest periods in American history The Civil War.
Based on family history, military archives, and stories passed down by the author’s grandfather and other family members, the people and events within the book are as real as one could present them without actually being there.
The first Battle of Bull Run, would claim one Cooper family member in Manasses, Virginia. Within the next four years, character and fortitude would be tested on the Cooper men serving on the military front, as well as the women and children left behind on the Georgia farm. The youngest son, John, would be sent to a New York prison for his refusal to sign the Oath of Allegiance to the north after General Lee’s surrender, not knowing that an unexpected acquaintance would be waiting.
Jane Cooper was anything but a Southern Belle. Irish born, and devoted to her slaves, she was as much an outsider in southern society as any of her slaves would have been in white company sharing afternoon tea. With her friend, Kessie, at her side, the two face challenges and conquer hardships that would bring the strongest to their knees. After enduring multiple raids that left the family near the brink of starvation, help arrives in the form of two runaway slaves who teach them to live off the wild offerings of the land.
The Union Army pushes south, and Jane’s determination to keep the family together results in them being caught between enemy lines. Their Georgia farm home is taken over as a Union hospital, and she finds herself being drawn into yet a deeper conflict, when she falls in love with the Union doctor.
My Brother…My Son, is a book with a purpose. Its purpose is to deliver the message as it was given, for within the message, there is healing and understanding. Understand, and embrace it. It is a gift.

I read this book because it was an account of the family of my great-great-grandfather, who also fought for the Confederate Army, and the impact of the Civil War on my ancestors. It depicts how difficult life on the home front in the South was, particularly in 1864-1865 and after the war. I really appreciate Sherry investing the time and effort to document the real-life stories of her family for future generations.Product details

My Brother My Son edition by Sherry CooperSanders Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A great job of capturing what they experienced fighting - and those left behind at home. I usually do not enjoy war stories, but this book captured my interest with such a personal view touching all emotions; happy, sad, and fear. So realistic I felt I was there.
Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction. My Brother... My son is a true account of one southern family and their struggle to survive the Civil War. The men and boys go off to war and the women stay home and fight their own battles for survival. This book is well written and one that was hard to put down. With its many unexpected twists and turns, I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Civil War stories and anyone who just loves a good read.

My cousin wrote this book about our family during the Civil War. A very good box for history buffs. Loved reading about my great grandfather, even though part of it was fiction.
This book was written by my friend Sherry Sanders. I typed the original
writing for her. I read every word that way. Bought the book to re-read it again
and couldn't put it down. It is so amazing that she was able to gather so much
information on her family during the Civil War and the actions of the War itself.
I would recommend, as I have all along, My Brother My Son.
Thank you for asking.

Purchased the book to learn more about the New Hope Community during the Civil War as my ancestors were neighbors to the people in the book. It was a good buy for ninety nine cents as it eliminated trying to locate the book from out of state.
