This is an excellent first novel by a new author. The character development and pacing of the story keeps the reader engaged. While I have always preferred a full length novel to the shorter, novella style "In the Eye of the Sphinx" felt more like the beginning of an epic adventure that left me wanting to read more and speculating about the next installment. Ulysses Nico DAgris is a welcome addition to my home library.
Imaginative and Insightful!
Starship crews from complementary worlds embarked on exploration missions into the great frontier to become ensnared in a space anomaly where their worlds turn inside out. The theme is reminiscent of Jacob's ladder in the Old Testament. The characters climb step-by-step through intermediary goals or challenges to ascend up to their unlimited potential.
The author practices a succinct to the point prose which I wasn't accustomed to in novels. I look forward to reading more.
From teens to adults all should find this novella educational and entertaining.
In the Eye of the Sphinx widened my perspective of the human potential and ultimate reality. I can now envision that knowledge and creativity will become the currency of the future and we must begin to prepare for it today.
Nico DAgris explores the age old philosophical question that in order to evolve spiritually should one reunite with their soul mate?
Like a roller-coaster it took me to places I wasn't prepared to go, but it was a thrilling ride. It was an escape from our mundane daily reality into a universe of possibilities. I can't wait for the second leg of the ride.
First, I found the resurrection of the novella form refreshing. I am delighted that in this age of eBooks that the author is reintroducing this laconic form of writing through Part I of his new series Multiverse Journeys. The novella form should prove to be a better fit on a tablet rather than on a shelf in a bookstore. Also, great for people on the go like me!
In the Eye of the Sphinx is a fast paced action packed adventure that will entertain and inform Sci-Fi aficionados from young adults to mature audiences. Although there is no obscene language or scenes, I would love to see it adapted as a cable series where the bare physical form would not be censored. It explores the age-old question of where rests our true identity In our body? our mind? our soul?
Starships on deep exploration missions intersect via a space anomaly where their Universes converge. When crew members awaken from cryopreservation they experience the world though the senses of their soul mates.
The story is set in the distant future when physics and metaphysics meld into a common philosophy. I like the direction this series is taking. I can't wait for Part II. My only complaint was that it left me wanting more, but in the best possible way.
The unique characters communicate their experiences and actions primarily through dialogue rather than described through narration. Therefore there is virtually no padding to help the book stand on a book shelf rather than on its content.
I was impressed of the detail rendering of a possible future that our grand children may discover during their lifetime. At times, I wondered how I would react if I found myself in the same predicament of one of the characters' in the book. As we already know scientific progress forces us into critical decision making and experiences without asking if we are ready or not.
Ultimately, Ulysses Nico DAgris introduced and developed unique characters, and placed them in highly portentous situations. If you are ready to take a voyage into the future, purchase your boarding pass now.
